We are so excited to welcome Denton County Friends of the Family to the Serve Denton Center as our newest partner agency!
Since 1980, Denton County Friends of the Family (DCFOF) has provided compassionate and comprehensive services to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault, while partnering with the community to promote safety, hope, healing, justice and prevention. All victim services are free of charge.
Services Friends of the Family Provides
DCFOF is expanding their Victim Advocacy program, Victim Counseling and BIPP (Battering Intervention and Prevention Program) to the Serve Denton Center in order to increase accessibility for clients.
The additional location at the Serve Denton Center will also allow DCFOF to serve more people!
DCFOF Executive Director Toni Johnson-Simpson, MSW said one of their current challenges is capacity because more than 200 new people enter services each month. Even with the expansion of their children’s wing and the opening of two satellite offices in 2017, their organization is facing a severe challenge in capacity.
They will use the Serve Denton Conference Room and Classroom spaces for things like volunteer trainings and meetings.
“We will be providing intakes for victims to assess needs and refer to services and programs in the agency and in the community,” said Nicole Roberts, DCFOF Executive Program Director.
“Advocates will assist victims with obtaining protective orders, safety planning, applying for Crime Victims Compensation and information and education about the legal system. Counselors will provide emotional support and information and education to victims. The Battering Intervention and Prevention Program will work with offenders to reduce future incidences of domestic violence.”
At other locations, DCFOF provides counseling for adults, children and adolescents, Legal Services, Transitional Housing, Crisis Line, Emergency Shelter, Community Education, Survivors Advocacy Team and has a resale store called Upscale Resale Thrift Store.
At their resale store, clients and their families are provided the opportunity to shop for both personal and household needs. The store is also open to the community. Proceeds from community shoppers benefit the agency's extensive and comprehensive services.
Out of the 69 staff members DCFOF currently has, three will work out of the Serve Denton Center:
Amy Mozingo, MA, LPCI, BIPP Facilitator
Connie Cisneros, Advocate
Kim Powell, PhD, LPCS, Counselor
DCFOF expects this number to expand as the organization discovers additional ways to utilize the space in order to serve clients.
“We are most excited about the opportunity to further strengthen our relationships with other agencies. This will allow us to serve victims more efficiently, and assist victims who may be present for services at other organizations.”
DCFOC will be operating by appointment only at the Serve Denton Center. Appointments can be scheduled by calling (940) 387-5131.
