The Young Men’s Service League (YMSL) of Argyle gave its annual “Ultimate Gift” to The Wheeler House on Saturday, October 17. The young men and their member moms worked together to build a 15-foot by 20-foot cedar wood pergola for the families living at The Wheeler House to enjoy. The “Ultimate Gift” is a YMSL philanthropy event conducted by every YMSL chapter in the fall that connects their mission with the needs of charitable organizations that deal specifically with homeless women and children. These projects are meant to achieve a transformational impact for the benefiting organizations. The families at The Wheeler House now have a place to spend time together outdoors and make memories.
All of the building materials for the project were donated from various businesses across Texas. As an added bonus, the YMSL Argyle members donated funds to Serve Denton to help purchase patio furniture, a Weber gas grill, and everything the families need to make S’mores on Halloween! Serve Denton, Giving Hope, Inc., and both the current and future Wheeler House resident families are very appreciative of the hard work and generosity of the YMSL Argyle chapter.
The YMSL is a nonprofit organization that initiates and encourages young men and their mothers to pursue philanthropic involvement in their community. The organization also provides an opportunity to enhance mother/son relationships. Many of the “Ultimate Gift” recipient nonprofits dream of great ideas for their philanthropy, but have no means of accomplishing their vision. With YMSL as a partner, those dreams can be met!
The Wheeler House is a Serve Denton project designed to provide hope, housing and health services. Health Services of North Texas runs the affordable health clinic in the front of the building and Giving Hope Inc. manages the interim housing for women and children.
