As many of you know, The Wheeler House is a place where both healthcare and housing needs can be met. Serve Denton has co-located a family shelter and clinic in this downtown location to serve the Denton community in a safe place. Completing The Wheeler House has required much help along the way, with one of those special people being Cheri Forman. Coming from the Rose Capital of the World -Tyler, Texas - Cheri moved to Denton, graduating from Denton High School and UNT. She first heard about Serve Denton through her experience volunteering for our executive director, Pat Smith. Cheri then learned Denton had many avenues to help those in need, but they seemed to be geographically inaccessible. In the beginning stages of Serve Denton, Cheri started working with our Scripzone program, a service that allows people to buy gift cards to their favorite places with a portion of the proceeds going to Serve Denton.
“Three of the most important things in my life are my faith, my family and my friends,” Cheri told us. This is why she wanted to name the multipurpose room of The Wheeler House. This room would be an area where families could gather and build community with their neighbors, so she decided to name the room, “The Forman Family Room.”
Now a grandmother, Cheri is a “Nonni-on-call” to her four grandchildren, where she impacts her own family, and will soon immensely impact the future families of The Wheeler House.
