Circle of Support Spotlight: Prudence Sanchez

Prudence Sanchez Headshot

Prudence Sanchez, one of our faithful board members, was the very first member of our Circle of Support, our monthly giving program! This means she has been giving for two years now, and we want to celebrate her generosity.

So, we asked her a few questions to learn why she gives to Serve Denton every month and learned a little bit about her along the way.

How did you first learn about Serve Denton?

I first learned about Serve Denton when I was involved in the Homeless Coalition in 2014.

How long have you been involved with Serve Denton? And in what capacity?

I have been a board member and volunteer since 2014, and then I believe it was in 2015 that I became a committee member on the collaboration committee, and then on the compliance committee.

Why did you decide to start giving?

I decided to start giving because I believe in being invested as fully as possible in any organization I am involved in.

Why do you continue to give to Serve Denton every month?

I continue to give monthly to Serve Denton because I don't ask anyone to do something that I would not do.

What is your favorite thing about Denton?

My favorite thing about Denton is its personality. Denton has a particular vibe that is welcoming, interesting and multi-faceted. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else.

Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?

My age is "plenty-five." My husband, Alfredo Sanchez, and three of our children moved to Denton in 1995 when he became the Wildlife Biologist for the US Forest Service Caddo and LBJ National Grasslands.

I have two sons, two daughters, two grandsons and two granddaughters. I graduated from Texas Wesleyan School of Law in 2011, passed the bar and got sworn in by the Texas Supreme Court in November 2011. I have been practicing law since that date.

I am also currently an Associate Executive Director of Denton Affordable Housing Corporation, a nonprofit here in Denton that assists in providing affordable housing to the community. I am also a Registered Dental Hygienist in Texas and New Mexico.

I love to sew, quilt, embroider, crochet, read and babysit my grandchildren.  I was born and raised in Louisiana by a single mother with the help of my maternal grandmother. My mother is 80 years old. I have three sisters who all live in Louisiana.

I love being involved with Serve Denton because Serve Denton is such a collaborator and facilitator of good things in our community.
