We are so excited to announce our newest program at Serve Denton – "Share-A-Van"!
With the help of our Denton community, we were able to raise enough funds to purchase a 12-passenger van, which will be used for our new “Share-A-Van” program. This community van will be used by our partnering agencies to transport clients and carry out special programing such as Employ to Empower (E2E).
E2E is a collaborative project between local nonprofit agencies and the City of Denton. The goal of the program is to provide jobs to those who are homeless, giving them the skills and work experience they need to find permanent work. This is just one of the ways we are trying to help close the poverty gap. The van will also be used to help transport families living at The Wheeler House who do not have their own means of transportation. We will share more about the E2E program soon!
The idea to have a “Share-A-Van” program originated in July 2016 because many of the moms living at The Wheeler House did not have transportation to get to work, drop off their kids to daycare, run errands, etc. Not soon after, Denton Benefit League granted Serve Denton $10,000 to help purchase a van for the program. An anonymous donor stepped in to cover the additional costs, and Bill Utter Ford provided special pricing.
Denton Benefit League Member Sandra Robinson said:
“The purpose of the Denton Benefit League is to raise funds for philanthropic purposes and to promote volunteerism in the community. Denton Benefit League is proud to partner with organizations, such as Serve Denton, in the important work they do to make our community a better place to live.”
